Extra Practice — not a second book

What this is not

This is not a full curriculum, not an adaptive tutor chat, and not a printable worksheet mill. It does not mix operations, jump difficulty, or score the child. It will not replace the textbook. It only offers more of the same lesson, in the same language, for ten unhurried minutes.

Who it is for

Parents using Dimensions, Primary Mathematics, or another classical / Singapore program who say: the child is doing well overall, but this one topic — often subtraction with renaming — ran out of problems. Generic worksheets use the wrong method. Writing a set by hand takes twenty minutes and still may not match the book.

How it works

1. Open Extra Practice from the Arena and choose a grade band plus the stuck skill — or type a short lesson note such as “Dimensions 2A, renaming.”
2. Create a set. Confirm the skill and the ten-minute window. Start beside your child, or let them work alone.
3. The first problems always show the picture before the equation. Later items look more like the workbook.
4. A miss is quiet: try once more, or see the picture again. After a second miss, a short solution sentence is there for you to read aloud.
5. Stop whenever you like. The end screen only says that’s enough for today — then offers a related activity if you want one.

The mathematical idea

Singapore Math moves concrete → pictorial → abstract. Extra volume only helps when those pictures stay consistent. Renaming (not “borrowing” unless that is your book’s word), part–whole bonds, and bar models are the same structures the lesson already used. The set stays inside one skill so the child practices the model, not a new algorithm.

Why it helps

The pain is rarely “more math apps.” It is not enough of this lesson. A parent should be able to generate a matched set in under thirty seconds, sit beside the child for ten or fifteen minutes, and leave without a score, a streak, or a second method to unteach tomorrow.

Age & skill range. Kindergarten through about grade 5, depending on the skill you choose. Match the grade band to the lesson in front of you, not to the child’s age alone.
