Count & Show — numbers to 5 and 10
Dimensions Math KA spends Chapters 2 and 3 on counting, “how many?”, numerals, and one more. Count & Show is that sitting on a screen: a small group of objects, a child who counts, and a parent who stays beside them.
What this is not
This is not writing practice, not addition, and not a speed drill. Numbers stay at 10 or below. There is no score.
Who it is for
Kindergarten families using Dimensions Math KA (or a similar Singapore program) who want gentle digital practice of one-to-one correspondence without worksheets.
How it works
- Choose Numbers to 5 (the usual start) or Numbers to 10.
- The child sees a countable group — not a scatter — and taps objects or chooses the numeral.
- Later rounds ask them to show a number, or name one more.
- A miss is “Try once more.” After a second miss, the count is shown quietly. Stop whenever you like.
The mathematical idea
One-to-one correspondence — one touch, one object, one number — is the floor under later facts. Subitizing small groups and “one more” prepare the number line without rushing to operations.
Why it helps
Parents want the child to count real groups and connect them to the numeral. Ten unhurried minutes of that, in the same language as the book, is the sitting.
